 Nuo

Nuo Opera is a very ancient Chinese tradition that can still be seen today in some parts of the country. It is regarded as a living fossil of the early human civilization and folk arts.

The Nuo opera, a kind of drama featuring masked dancing, is popular with minority groups in the mountainous districts in China.  In its developing stages, it was influenced mostly by shaman opera.  It finally evolved into Nuo opera, and become an important branch of the opera family.  To research the style of performance, Some people examines the complex connection between Nuo opera and shamanism, Taoism, and Buddhism.  New evidence is provided to show how Nuo opera came into being, and developed as the result of religious sacrifices. It can offer the new proof on how Nuo opera was developed from religious sacrificial activities.

NUO

Nuo rituals were originally performed during the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays to expel evil spirits and pestilence. In recent decades, the ceremony is more a theatrical performance for entertainment and expresses farmers’ longing for good weather, bumper harvest and family prosperity.  Nuo performers are often equipped with whips and dance to different mysterious tunes. They also wear masks painted in different colors –black, white and red — and bear varied countenances — some look amiable and others ferocious and frightening.

parrot-016.jpg

Although the contents of this blog will tend to business, but I want to first talk about the Chinese people’s lives. In China, many people prefer keeping pets, which I usually see is the  dogs and the birds. This is my two parrots raised in 2005. Because I had to travel a very long time, I gave them to a girl. And now they have all disappeared.  Two years have passed, their photographs are still in my computer. This parrot in a bird market is very common, so they are not expensive. Perhaps you can spend four dollars on this two lovely parrots.  (by Bill Han)

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

More than a month ago, I registered a domain name fourp.org in domainsite.com. After that, I purchased the host in bluehost.com, so finally I can manage the website fourp.org. These days, I am thinking how to design the fourp.org. First, it should be a blog written in English. Because the form of blog website is suitable for me. Second, it’s target is people knowing English, especially for Americans. By fourp.org, I want to introduce Chinese commerce, marketing and Internet to the foreign people. These are true things, happening besides me, so it is personal, having my own opinion and comments. Since my English is not that good, it may have some errors. If you find some errors, please contact me and I will correct them and improve my English. That’s also one of the reasons I open this website.I want to thank Kelly who helps me to translate this article.Thank her!(Author/Bill Han  Translation/Kelly)
