Baidu - Alibaba contest heating up

Don’t miss Tangos’s piece on a very interesting new (though not unexpected) development in the ongoing throw-down between Baidu and Alibaba. After announcing that they’d be getting into the B2B and B2C ecommerce businesses last year and going into an invite-only Beta just weeks ago, Baidu has now announced an online payment system called Baifubao to challenge Alipay, and a C2C platform to take on Alibaba’s dominant Taobao. Things will get very, very interesting I suspect. Baidu is such an incredibly powerful brand in the Internet, and dominating search as it does it will be able to acquire customers with real ease. Taobao, as you’ve likely already heard, has begun blocking spiders from other search engines — a direct slap at Baidu.(from Ogilvy China)

Netsun Launched New B2B Service

Hangzhou based B2B platform operator Zhejiang Netsun Co., Ltd. (002095.SZ) launched a new B2B business service called “Start Up Plan” recently, according to Netsun CEO Sun Deliang (孙德良), reports Donews. The “Start Up Plan” is a part of it’s B2B platform at NetSun.com released in April this year. Netsun plans to recruit many general managers from all kinds of industries and set up many classified B2B websites to form a whole B2B team of different industries in China.

A few days ago,  Alimama.com which is a new member of  Alibaba Group was launched in Hangzhou in eastern China. Alimama.com is an online B2C and C2C marketplace focused on advertisements. On Alimama.com the sellers can offer their websites’ places to show advertisements for the buyers. And the buyers can also look for a designated website or place from the sellers.
